Mistfall Hunter August 19 Patch Notes — Withered Knight Buffs, Scavenger Squad Refresh, and Controller Customization

Bellring Games dropped a live balance pass on August 19, 2026 — Mercenary with targeted PvP nerfs were walked back, Withered Knight receives sweeping buffs (Super Armor on fully charged heavies + reworked Withering Mark + Polearm Shield bash hitbox +6%), Shadowstrix crit damage +8%, Seer heal +5% (counter-nerf), and a Scavenger Squad material refresh mechanic. Plus expanded controller customization. Verified against mistfallhunterguide.org and the official Steam news hub for app 3282300.

Freshness Live balance pass deployed 2026-08-19. Updated 2026-09-01 with the 2026-08-28 server maintenance patch (Sorcerer nerfs + Mercenary dodge changes + Withered Knight stamina fix + Revealing Bulb/Fetid Jar tactical item buffs + Oceania server expansion + Season Task difficulty reductions). The 2026-08-28 patch was the first Mistfall Hunter update with downtime (06:30 UTC+0 maintenance, ~2 hours). Phase 2 Brandrgarde Solo Mode + Underlord Speed Challenge still scheduled for September 2026.

TL;DR

  • Withered Knight receives three buffs: Super Armor on fully charged heavy attacks, reworked Withering Mark debuff (8% damage reduction for 6 seconds, stackable in trios), and Polearm Shield bash hitbox +6% (on top of the 8/7 +12% animation alignment).
  • Seer heal output +5% (counter-nerf to 8/6’s -10%, net -5% from launch).
  • Shadowstrix crit damage +8% on backstab — top-tier solo assassin again.
  • Scavenger Squad material refresh in Brandrgarde Cataclysm — chest respawn timer cut by 20%.
  • Controller customization expanded — separate bindings for Polearm/Shield quick-swap and Soul Harvest event actions.
  • Crash fixes for Brandrgarde Cataclysm runs over 45 real-time minutes.

Who this patch is for

This patch rewards Withered Knight mains (especially solo Path of Glory grinders) and the Shadowstrix solo assassin crowd. The Seer counter-nerf is a small consolation for healers who felt the 8/6 -10% was too aggressive. The Scavenger Squad refresh is a free efficiency boost for anyone running Brandrgarde Cataclysm — which, after Fateweaver I, is the only difficulty that awards Path of Glory points.

If you only play one class, this patch does not change your experience. If you mained Withered Knight + Seer pre-patch and were frustrated by the 8/6 WK charge issues or the Seer nerf, this is the patch that brings both classes back to viability.

Withered Knight — the headline buffs

Withered Knight was the new class added with Season 1. The 8/6 Live Update adjusted the Polearm Shield charge rate (+15%) and added Withered Knight support in the meta. The 8/19 patch is a bigger buff cycle, focusing on the class’s identity as a frontline tank.

Super Armor on fully charged heavies

The most impactful change. Heavies interrupted your combo on the first hit before — a single Crossbow shot or Shadowstrix backstab would cancel your charge animation mid-swing, leaving you locked into the recovery. Super Armor on fully charged heavy attacks means the heavy animation completes regardless of incoming damage below a threshold — you take the hit, you finish the swing, the enemy stagger-locks their attack.

The threshold isn’t published — the community has tested it and it’s roughly equivalent to 70% of Withered Knight’s max HP. If you are below 30% HP, Super Armor breaks on a heavy hit. The mechanic rewards managing your health well — do not chain heavies at low HP.

Reworked Withering Mark

Previously, Withering Mark applied on the Withered Knight’s signature heavy chain only. The 8/19 reworked version:

  • Triggers: Polearm thrust (the gap-closing poke, not the heavy sweep)
  • Effect: 8% damage reduction for 6 seconds
  • Stacks: yes — a Withered Knight trio applying Withering Mark in sequence hits 24% damage reduction on the same target

The trigger change (from heavy chain to thrust) makes Withering Mark easier to apply and gives Withered Knight supports a “tap and run” combo you can use to dip in and out of melee.

Polearm Shield bash hitbox +6%

The Polearm Shield bash had been hit by two bugs: an 8/7 animation alignment fix (+12% to the hitbox to match the visual), and this 8/19 hitbox correction (+6% further). Together the two fixes make counter-engage bashes reliable against sidestepping enemies. The bash is the Withered Knight’s panic button against flanking Shadowstrix and Blackarrow players — a more reliable hitbox means fewer “I hit the button and nothing happened” moments.

Three-Withered-Knight trios at the upper ranks

The combined effect of the Super Armor + Withering Mark + bash hitbox makes three-Withered-Knight trios viable at the upper-mid ranks (Dawnseeker → Fateweaver) for the first time in Season 1. This is an emergent strategy — pre-8/19, three WKs would stack Withering Mark on a target, but a single well-timed Co-ordinated Crossbow or Shadowstrix burst would melt the formation. Post-8/19, the Super Armor keeps the Withered Knights standing through the focus fire long enough to apply the debuff and counter-engage. The risk is being kited by a Blackarrow trio — but if you can get close, three-WK is a top-tier climb comp.

Seer — the small counter-nerf

The 8/6 Live Update hit Seer with a -10% heal output nerf, dropping her from S-tier healer to mid-tier. The 8/19 patch adds a +5% heal output counter-buff — Seer is now -5% from launch (net). It’s not enough to put Seer back in S-tier, but it’s enough to make Seer mains feel less punished.

The deeper shift: Shadowstrix +8% crit on backstab (see below) makes it easier for trios to burst through Seer heals. The meta is shifting away from “Seer keeps the trio alive long enough to wear down opponents” toward “the trio kills faster than Seer can heal.” If you main Seer, this is a directional signal: the next patch cycle may bring a Seer rework.

Shadowstrix — back to solo assassin king

The 8/19 patch adds +8% crit damage on backstab for the Shadowstrix. The crit damage bonus stacks with the existing backstab damage bonus — a backstab crit from Shadowstrix now does roughly 2.5x base damage. This is one-shot range against most classes at full HP.

The Shadowstrix buff is balanced by the Withered Knight Super Armor — a Shadowstrix backstab crit into a WK with Super Armor active does chip damage, not a one-shot. Post-8/19, Shadowstrix prefers targets other than Withered Knight (Mercenary and Blackarrow are the easy marks).

Scavenger Squad material refresh

The 8/19 patch cuts chest respawn timers by 20% inside the new Brandrgarde Cataclysm difficulty. For Path of Glory grinders at Fateweaver I and above — where Normal difficulty no longer awards points — this is a free 20% efficiency boost:

  • Same run time
  • More chest loot (20% faster respawn)
  • More Echo currency (the Season 1 Phase 2 Phantom Jobs vendor currency)
  • More seasonal store currency

The refresh applies to all chest types inside Brandrgarde Cataclysm — including the rare Soul Cocoons during the Soul Harvest event window.

Controller customization expansion

Two new binding slots:

SlotWhat it controlsDefault binding
Polearm/Shield quick-swapSwitches between Polearm and Shield as offhandBack paddle (Xbox Elite / DualSense Edge controllers)
Soul Harvest event actionInteract with Soul Cocoons during the 8/14 eventRight stick click

The default bindings assume a controller with back paddles. If you play on a standard controller, remap the Soul Harvest event action to a shoulder button — the right stick click conflicts with aim during fast-moving PvPvE encounters.

Crash fixes (bundled)

The 8/19 patch bundles two stability fixes for crashes triggered during long Brandrgarde Cataclysm sessions (over 45 real-time minutes). The crash was a memory leak in the new Cataclysm difficulty’s extended fog-of-war system. If you crashed mid-run after the 8/6 patch, install 8/19 and the crash should resolve. The fixes are not separately documented in the patch notes — they are folded into the balance changes.

What’s next for Mistfall Hunter

PatchWindowWhat’s new
Soul Harvest event active2026-08-14 → early SeptemberEvent continues
Brandrgarde Solo ModeEarly September (Phase 2)Brandrgarde becomes solo-friendly (was trio-only); Path of Glory points also become solo-eligible
Phase 3 late Season 1Late SeptemberNew monster (Golden Woodling) + Ancestor Tree random match event + early Season 2 teaser
Season 2Late October 2026New theme + ranked reset + new Phantom Jobs

This patch is a directional shift, not a meta reset. Withered Knight + Seer + Shadowstrix feel meaningfully different in the upper-mid ranks. The biggest change for most players is the Scavenger Squad refresh — if you run Path of Glory, queue Brandrgarde Cataclysm and let the chest respawn efficiency compound. The Phase 2 Brandrgarde Solo Mode drops in early September; this patch sets up the upper ranks for a smoother solo climb through the rest of Season 1.

Update: 2026-08-28 Server Maintenance Patch

Bellring Games deployed a server maintenance patch on 2026-08-28 at 06:30 UTC+0 with roughly 2 hours of downtime — the first Mistfall Hunter update since launch to require scheduled maintenance rather than a live drop. The patch originally had been planned for 2026-08-27 before being moved. Players received Elite Combat Bag ×1 as compensation.

Headline class changes

  • Sorcerer received targeted nerfs — the Stardust Sorcerer Unending Torrent talent path and several Meteor / Frost Wyrm arcane burst windows were dialed back. The class is no longer a free-win in Hallowgrove Chaos.
  • Mercenary received dodge timing changes — dodge-cancel windows on charge attacks (Stonebreaker Slash and Whirling Cut) were tightened, and several talent interactions that allowed infinite-dodge combos were patched. The Mercenary is no longer a top-tier solo climb pick.
  • Withered Knight received stamina fixes — the long-range dash branched from Parry had been bugged to fling the character into the sky under specific circumstances. A protective constraint system was added across every class to stop characters being thrown upward after high-speed movement.
  • Seer received a Burst Rune fix — Burst Rune could strip an enemy’s invulnerability as they left a Mist Lord’s room, which closed the exit-side doorway protection added on 2026-08-19. This bug-fix brings Seer back to mid-tier healer without the exploit.
  • Shadowstrix received no direct changes, but the meta impact of Sorcerer nerfs and Mercenary dodge changes means Shadowstrix is back in contention as a top-tier solo assassin.

Tactical item buffs

ItemBuff
Revealing BulbNow seeks targets automatically instead of requiring manual throw; movement speed bonus increased
Potent Revealing BulbLarger dodge-energy reduction on hit
Fetid JarLarger hit radius; holds enemies down for longer

These changes make Revealing Bulb a much more practical pick for solo runs — previously you had to land the throw manually, which made the item too skill-dependent for the reward. The auto-seek fix plus larger speed bonus makes Revealing Bulb a top-tier solo tactical.

Server + content changes

  • New Oceania server region added — the first regional expansion beyond the five countries the game launched with. Oceania players no longer need to route through Asia-Pacific servers, reducing ping for AU / NZ / Pacific Island players.
  • Season Tasks and Contract Tasks difficulty reduced — Bellring acknowledged that the original task difficulty was too high and player feedback had been persistent. Kill-count requirements were reduced, difficulty-mode restrictions lowered (tasks that previously forced you into a harder mode no longer do), and objectives that previously asked you to execute Gyldhunters now only ask you to defeat them (with lower counts).
  • No tasks removed from the season count — what changed is what each task asks of you, not how many there are. Players grinding the season pass do not lose progress.
  • Daily task rewards increased — 30 Contract Sigils per daily task → 40 Contract Sigils per daily task (a 33% buff).

Server performance (separate workstream)

This patch did not contain server performance lines. Earlier in August (8/13 and 8/14), Bellring traced intermittent stuttering, teleporting characters, and lag to cloud server CPU hyper-threading and rolled out server configuration changes across all servers. Their monitoring showed the stutters occurring less often afterwards. An earlier update also reduced the frequency of damage-over-time tick effects (keeping total damage the same) to cut server workload.

The investigation is described as ongoing rather than solved — remaining lag reports are not addressed by anything in the 8/28 patch notes. If you are still seeing lag, the recommended action is to switch to a different regional server if possible (Oceania is now available), and avoid running Brandrgarde Cataclysm sessions over 45 real-time minutes (the long-session crash is fixed by 8/19 but stutters are not).

What to re-test after 8/28

If you were running any of the following loadouts before 8/28, they are worth re-testing:

  • Stardust Sorcerer without Unending Torrent — was over-tuned; now back to balanced
  • Mercenary built around dodge-cancelling charges — combo windows tightened; not free wins anymore
  • Shadowstrix leaning on Spinning Slash for safe counterattacks — no Shadowstrix change, but the meta around it shifted
  • Seer running Burst Rune into Mist Lord rooms — exploit fixed, so the value of Burst Rune for Mist Lord runs is reduced
  • Withered Knight spamming Sprint Slash into Withering Mark rotations — stamina fixes make this combo slightly less effective

Everything else in the 8/28 pass is either a fix or a small gain. The tactical item buffs (Revealing Bulb + Fetid Jar) are the only positive changes for most players.

Forward outlook: Phase 2 (September 2026)
