PlayStation 3

Sony's 2006 seventh-generation home console (2006-2013 production run, 87.4M units sold), the first to ship with a Blu-ray drive and the Cell Broadband Engine processor. Cell's SPU-heavy architecture was famously difficult to program for — and notoriously hard to emulate. RPCS3, the open-source PS3 emulator, reached the 0.0.42 milestone in 2026-07 (ARM64 SVE2 SPU optimizations, RPCN online trophy sync) and now runs roughly 75% of the ~4000 known PS3 titles at Playable status or better on Apple Silicon, ARM Windows, and standard x86 PCs.
