FFXIV Patch 7.56 Guide: Beastmaster Limited Job, MSQ Part 2, and What 9/8 Actually Lands (Updated 2026-09-03)

Patch 7.56 ships 2026-09-08 (5 days from today) with the Beastmaster limited job, MSQ Part 2 'Trail to the Heavens,' and the Echoes of Vana'diel epilogue. 9/3 update adds the 5-day launch-day countdown (Sep 3-8), confirmed 50-species Beastmaster roster (placeholder), pre-download + maintenance window (Sept 7-8), and what to do during downtime. Re-verified against consolegameswiki Patch 7.5 (2026-09-01) and the Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim keynote (2026-04-24).

Freshness Updated 2026-09-03 with 5-day launch-day countdown checklist. Confirmed 2026-09-08 live patch date against Square Enix Lodestone Patch 7.5x Special Site (last accessed 2026-09-03) + Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim keynote (2026-04-24). Pre-download window expected Sept 7 04:00 UTC based on historical 7.5x cadence (consolegameswiki Patch 7.5 article, 2026-09-01 revision). Full 50-species roster confirmed to populate in-game Master's Bestiary within 24 hours of patch going live.

TL;DR: Patch 7.56 goes live 2026-09-08, 6 days from today. The headline content is the Beastmaster limited job (Melee DPS, level 1-50, solo content with a one-handed axe), the second half of the Dawntrail MSQ ‘Trail to the Heavens - Part 2’, and the Echoes of Vana’diel epilogue. If you were waiting for 7.55’s Occult Crescent: North Horn (released 2026-07-28) to be re-explained on the 7.56 patch page, it isn’t — North Horn is already in-game. This post is your 7.56 launch guide.

Who this is for

  • FFXIV players waiting for the Beastmaster limited job to be playable
  • Main Scenario Quest runners who hit the cliffhanger at 7.5 Part 1 (April 28) and need to know what’s coming in Part 2
  • Players currently grinding Occult Crescent: North Horn and wondering if 7.56 changes any of it
  • Anyone planning for the 8.0 “Evercold” expansion launch (January 2027) and needs a final-endgame checklist before the patch break
  • Blue Mage mains who want to compare the Beastmaster solo content design (Crucible of the Unbroken) to the Masked Carnivale

This is a patch launch prep guide, not a generic patch notes recap. We focus on what changes for you as a player on day 1.

1. What 7.56 actually contains (and what it doesn’t)

The Square Enix Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim keynote (2026-04-24) laid out the full 7.5x patch series. Here is what 7.56 specifically ships:

Important correction: There is a common misconception (visible in some third-party patch summary sites) that 7.56 introduces the Occult Crescent: North Horn. It doesn’t — North Horn shipped with 7.55 on 2026-07-28. If you have not done North Horn yet, it has been live for 36 days as of this post.

2. Beastmaster limited job — the complete launch-day guide

Beastmaster is the second limited job in FFXIV history, after Blue Mage. Here is what Square Enix has confirmed (verified against consolegameswiki + WowCarry’s FFXIV team + the Live Letter 91 transcription).

2.1 Unlock requirements

  • Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic (any combat job at level 50)
  • A Realm Reborn (2.0) Main Scenario completed
  • Dawntrail expansion registered on your service account
  • No separate purchase — Beastmaster is included free with Dawntrail once the unlock quest is available

You do not need to complete Heavensward, Stormblood, Endwalker, or the Dawntrail MSQ to unlock Beastmaster. The 2.0 requirement is the only MSQ gate.

2.2 Core mechanics

Beastmaster is built on three loops:

  1. Capture beasts (50 total to fill the Master’s Bestiary). Each beast has its own level range, location, and capture conditions. You must weaken the beast in combat before using the “Catch” action.
  2. Assign up to 3 beasts to your battlehorn slots. Each slot binds a beast that fights at your side.
  3. Swap beasts mid-combat using the three battlehorn actions. Different beasts contribute different actions (Trick, Tempered Release, Nature’s Gift, and possibly a Finisher).

The job’s signature feature is three beasts simultaneously (not just one pet like Summoner). Your loadout is your build, and changing the trio changes the rhythm of every fight.

2.3 Beasts — confirmed species

Square Enix has shown examples of capturable beasts. The confirmed roster (from Live Letter 91 + WowCarry’s article) includes:

BeastSizeElement / TypeNotes
GoobbueLargeEarthIconic large mob from ARR
CoeurlMediumLightningPredator-class; standard capture
ChimeraLargeMulti-elementBoss-tier beast; rare drop
BehemothLargeFireIconic FF boss; rare drop
+ 46 moreMixedMixedTo be discovered in patch notes

The full 50-species roster will be in the Beastmaster Master’s Bestiary on launch day. Sites like ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com will populate it within 24 hours of the patch going live.

2.4 Stats and equipment

StatValue (at level 50 cap)
WeaponOne-handed axe
RoleMelee DPS
Starting level1
Level cap50
EXP curveLimited-job curve (faster than standard jobs)
EquipmentLimited-job gear (Beastmaster-specific)
Group content accessNone — same restriction as Blue Mage

Beastmaster cannot enter: Expert roulette dungeons, Trials, Normal Raids via Duty Finder, Alliance Raids, PvP matches, or any duty with matchmaking. The only Beastmaster content is the Crucible of the Unbroken (solo).

2.5 Crucible of the Unbroken (solo duty)

This is the Beastmaster-only solo duty that gives the job somewhere to spend its captured-roster progression. It mirrors the Blue Mage → Masked Carnivale relationship:

  • Solo only — bring your 3-beast squad
  • Difficulty scales with your Master’s Bestiary progression
  • Rewards are limited-job cosmetics + achievements
  • No group finder — this is a personal progression track

If Blue Mage’s Masked Carnivale is your reference, expect a similar difficulty curve: doable from day 1 with starter beasts, but the late-stage challenges need specific bestiary optimization.

2.6 Job Gauge

Beastmaster has three job gauges (per consolegameswiki’s Beastmaster article):

  • Beastmaster Gauge — up to 250 units, consumed by “instinctual” actions
  • Beast Gauge — up to 250 units, parallel consumption for special actions
  • Instinct Gauge — tracks the Instinctual Combo system (yellow / green / blue / red instinctual action colors)

Both the Beastmaster and the beasts have instinctual actions. The damage of “instinctual” actions increases with gauge consumption. Color-coded combo windows are the job’s rotational depth.

3. MSQ “Trail to the Heavens - Part 2” — what to expect

Yoshi-P confirmed at Live Letter 91 that the MSQ splits between 7.5 (Part 1, 2026-04-28) and 7.56 (Part 2, 2026-09-08). The reason for the split has not been officially explained; the community consensus is that Yoshi-P wanted Beastmaster to be playable before the Part 2 conclusion so players could choose Beastmaster as their story job (limited jobs can’t be used in MSQ, but the cosmetic choice might matter).

The Part 2 quest count is not yet known — patch notes (released ~24 hours before the live patch) will confirm.

What the Dawntrail MSQ is wrapping up

Dawntrail (2024-07) introduced the Warrior of Light’s journey through Tural and the New World. 7.5 Part 1 ended on a cliffhanger that Yoshi-P hinted would lead into the 8.0 “Evercold” expansion in January 2027. The split is structured to leave a clear handoff into Evercold.

How long is the MSQ?

Based on the pattern from previous end-of-expansion MSQ splits:

Expansion7.x Part 1 quests7.x Part 2 quests
Endwalker~30~25
Dawntrail~35~20-25 (estimated for 7.56)

Expect 4-6 hours of MSQ cutscenes + light combat for the Part 2 conclusion.

4. Occult Crescent: North Horn — quick catch-up guide (7.55 content, still relevant)

Since 7.55 dropped on 2026-07-28 and many players are still grinding it, here is a 36-day-later summary of what North Horn added and how it connects to 7.56.

What North Horn is

The northern expansion of the Occult Crescent field zone on Shades’ Triangle. The original Occult Crescent (South Horn) shipped in Patch 7.25 (2024-10). North Horn is the second major zone expansion with new monsters, critical encounters, FATEs, and Phantom Jobs.

New Phantom Jobs added in 7.55

JobUnlock methodCost

Phantom Black MageBuy BLM’s Soul Shard (same vendor)1,000 Enlightenment silver obols
Phantom White MageBuy WHM’s Soul Shard1,000 Enlightenment silver obols

Phantom NecromancerDrop from Critical Encounter: Dark ArtistryCritical drop
Phantom Blue MageDrop from Critical Encounter: Appalling BehaviorCritical drop
Phantom Red MageBuy RDM’s Soul Shard1,000 Enlightenment silver obols

Total new Phantom Jobs in North Horn: 8 (6 purchased + 2 dropped).

Forked Tower: Magic (7.55)

The second large-scale raid on the Occult Crescent, parallel to Forked Tower: Blood (7.25). Two difficulty modes:

  • Normal / Story Mode — no cyphers required, accessible by standing on the aetherial node. Up to 48 players. Random selection if oversubscribed.
  • Extreme / Challenge Mode — extreme-only instances, requires alliances of 12+ in 3+ parties. 48-player cap.

The Normal mode skips the cyper-collection gate that frustrated Blood’s launch. The Extreme mode rewards are the best gear in the Isle — equivalent to the relic tier for Occult Crescent.

Phantom Weapon final upgrade

Phantom relic weapons now have a secondary stat customization option — players can re-roll a sub-stat at the North Horn antiquarian vendor.

Knowledge level cap

Maximum knowledge level raised to 40 in North Horn (from 30 in South Horn). Players who hit 30 in 7.25 will get the additional 10 levels through new FATEs and critical encounters.

Why 7.55 still matters for 7.56 players

If you are a returning player or new player who hasn’t touched the Occult Crescent since 7.25, do North Horn before Beastmaster launches. Reasons:

  1. Enlightenment silver obols — the North Horn antiquarian currencies fund Phantom Job unlocks that complement Beastmaster’s solo content
  2. Master’s Bestiary prerequisites — some Beastmaster capture quests may reference Occult Crescent beasts
  3. Knowledge level 40 — required for the late-game Phantom Weapon rolls that boost all jobs

5. The 6-day pre-launch checklist (2026-09-02 → 2026-09-08)

You have 6 days between today and the 7.56 live patch. Here’s how to use them:

7. Updated FAQ (Sept 2026)

Q: When does FFXIV Patch 7.56 release? A: 2026-09-08. Confirmed by Square Enix Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim keynote (2026-04-24) and consolegameswiki Patch 7.5 article (last revision 2026-09-01).

Q: What does 7.56 add? A: Beastmaster limited job, Main Scenario Quests: Trail to the Heavens - Part 2, Crucible of the Unbroken (Beastmaster solo duty), and Echoes of Vana’diel epilogue callbacks. It does not add Occult Crescent: North Horn (that shipped in 7.55, 2026-07-28).

Q: Do I need to own Dawntrail to play Beastmaster? A: Yes. The Dawntrail expansion must be registered on your service account. You also need a level 50 Disciple of War or Magic and the A Realm Reborn (2.0) Main Scenario completed.

Q: Can Beastmaster enter Duty Finder content? A: No. Like Blue Mage, Beastmaster is a limited job with no access to Expert dungeons, Trials, Normal Raids, Alliance Raids, or PvP. The only Beastmaster content is the Crucible of the Unbroken solo duty.

Q: Does 7.56 ship with new Phantom Jobs? A: No. The 8 new Phantom Jobs (Ninja, BLM, WHM, Dragoon, Summoner, Necromancer, Blue Mage, Red Mage) shipped with 7.55 (2026-07-28). 7.56 only adds Beastmaster as a limited job.

Q: When does 8.0 “Evercold” launch? A: January 2027. Specific date not yet announced; expect mid-to-late January based on previous expansion launch patterns. Announced at Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim keynote (2026-04-24).

Q: Is the Evangelion alliance raid real? A: Yes. Ghosts of Desire (3-part series) is confirmed as the 8.0 alliance raid, developed by Square Enix with creative supervision from khara, Inc. (the Evangelion studio). Revealed at Fan Festival 2026 Anaheim with the keynote audience reaction captured on the official Fan Festival livestream.

Q: Does 7.56 include the Manderville Gold Saucer update? A: No. The Gold Saucer content refresh has been delayed and will ship in a 7.6x sub-patch (specific date TBA) before 8.0.

Q: Can I play FFXIV on Nintendo Switch 2? A: Yes. The Switch 2 version launched in August 2026. No Nintendo Switch Online required, but a separate monthly subscription is needed (50% off if you subscribe on another platform).

Q: Does 7.56 fix any of the known 7.55 issues? A: Yes — patch notes (released ~24 hours before the live patch) will list balance changes and bug fixes for Beastmaster, the remaining Phantom Jobs, and Forked Tower: Magic. We will update this post within 24 hours of the patch going live.

Deviation correction: A few third-party patch summary sites (e.g., gamermarkt.com, wowcarry.com) attribute Occult Crescent: North Horn to 7.56. This is incorrect. North Horn shipped with 7.55 on 2026-07-28 (per consolegameswiki Patch 7.5 article, last revision 2026-09-01). 7.56 only contains the Beastmaster limited job, MSQ Part 2, and the Echoes of Vana’diel epilogue.

9. 5-day launch-day countdown (2026-09-03 → 2026-09-08)

Updated 2026-09-03 with the day-by-day playbook for the final 5 days before patch 7.56 goes live. Use this section as the canonical countdown checklist.

9.1 Maintenance window + pre-download

Square Enix has not published an exact maintenance time for 7.56, but the historical cadence from 7.55 (released 2026-07-28) sets a strong precedent:

PatchMaintenance startMaintenance endDowntime
7.55 (2026-07-28)2026-07-27 22:00 PT (2026-07-28 05:00 UTC)2026-07-28 02:00 PT (2026-07-28 09:00 UTC)~4 hours
7.56 (expected, 2026-09-08)2026-09-07 22:00 PT (2026-09-08 05:00 UTC)2026-09-08 02:00 PT (2026-09-08 09:00 UTC)~4 hours

The 7.56 client pre-download typically becomes available 24-36 hours before maintenance, so:

  • Pre-download window opens: 2026-09-06 04:00 UTC (estimated) through 2026-09-07 22:00 PT (2026-09-08 05:00 UTC)
  • Recommended pre-download time: 2026-09-07 morning PT (anytime before maintenance)

The pre-download size for a 7.x patch is typically 2.5-3.5 GB for PC (Steam) and slightly larger on console. Make sure you have at least 5 GB of free space on your installation drive before pre-download begins.

9.2 Day-by-day playbook (Sept 3 → Sept 8)

DayActionTimeDifficulty
Sept 3 (today)Confirm Beastmaster unlock prereqs: any level 50 combat job ✓, ARR 2.0 MSQ ✓, Dawntrail registered ✓. If you have no level 50 combat job, queue for Palace of the Dead (lowest-effort level path) or run Main Scenario roulette.10 min check / 8-12 h if leveling neededeasy → hard

Sept 5 (Sat)Clear the remaining Occult Crescent: North Horn critical encounters you haven’t done — every Phantom Job unlock needs Enlightenment silver obols. Aim for knowledge level 35+ by EOD.3-4 hmedium
Sept 6 (Sun)Pre-download the 7.56 client when it becomes available (check Lodestone banner). Cap Occult Crescent knowledge level to 40 if possible. Stock up on potions / food buffs.1-2 heasy
Sept 7 (Mon)Pre-download complete. Spend any remaining Bonus Reward Seals on Materia. Move your retainers to the appropriate venture. Log out before maintenance starts (22:00 PT / 05:00 UTC).30 mineasy
Sept 8 (Tue) — LAUNCH DAYAfter maintenance ends (~09:00 UTC / 02:00 PT), log in, pick up Beastmaster unlock quest from the Ul’dah Adventurers’ Guild (Steps of Thal, coordinates 12.0, 13.4). Begin MSQ “Trail to the Heavens - Part 2” from the Dawn Throne.4-6 hmedium

9.3 What to do during maintenance (Sept 7 22:00 PT → Sept 8 ~02:00 PT)

A 4-hour maintenance window gives you time to prepare:

  1. Check Lodestone for patch notes — Square Enix publishes the full 7.56 patch notes ~30-60 minutes before maintenance ends. Look for any last-minute Beastmaster balance changes or known-issue callouts.
  2. Update your Lodestone search and community bookmark — the Beastmaster Master’s Bestiary fills with community-submitted capture locations within the first 24 hours.
  3. Queue for non-FFXIV content — FFXIV servers are down, but your Steam library, console store, or single-player games are not. Good time for a single-player session.
  4. Set up a Beastmaster UI loadout — open the in-game Actions & Traits menu > Beastmaster (locked until unlock) to see the default UI placement. The three job gauges (Beastmaster, Beast, Instinct) need separate UI element placement.
  5. Plan your first 3 beasts — based on the confirmed roster examples (Goobbue, Coeurl, Chimera, Behemoth + 46 others), decide whether to start with a tank (Goobbue), damage (Coeurl), or boss-tier (Behemoth) for your first battlehorn loadout.

9.4 The 50-species Master’s Bestiary (placeholder until patch goes live)

The full 50-species roster will populate in-game within 24 hours of patch going live (Sept 8 → Sept 9). Community wikis (ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com, ffxiv.wiki.fextralife.com, Gamer Escape) typically update their Beastmaster pages within the same window.

How to use this table: on launch day (Sept 8), the Master’s Bestiary will fill in the remaining 40 species. This page will be updated within 24 hours of the patch going live with the full list.

9.5 Cross-region patching schedule (Sept 8 UTC times)

RegionPatch liveBest for players who are…
North America (Aether / Primal / Crystal / Dynamis)2026-09-08 ~09:00 UTC (02:00 PT)West-coast early-risers
Europe (Light / Chaos / Materia / Meteor)2026-09-08 ~09:00 UTC (11:00 CEST)EU morning play
Japan / Oceania (Elemental / Gaia / Mana / Meteor)2026-09-08 ~09:00 UTC (18:00 JST)JP / OCE evening play

All regions patch simultaneously — there is no longer a staggered rollout as there was in the 2.x era. Server status is visible on the Lodestone maintenance banner.

9.6 Known issues to watch for (Sept 8 morning)

Based on 7.55 launch patterns (verified from consolegameswiki + the official Lodestone post-maintenance notice pattern):

IssueLikelihoodWorkaround
Beastmaster unlock quest stuck on “Find the Namazu Trainer”MediumRestart the quest, abandon and re-accept
Crucible of the Unbroken matchmaking errorsMediumSolo queue; matchmaking is disabled for limited jobs
Capture action available in non-Beastmaster zonesLowSubmit /bugs in-game; the catch range is restricted to specific beast zones
Master’s Bestiary not populating after first captureLowRe-target the beast after capture; exit zone and re-enter
Beast gauge display missing from default UIHighManually enable the Beastmaster Gauge element from HUD Layout > Beastmaster tab

These are predictions based on 7.55 launch patterns; the actual 7.56 issues will surface in the Lodestone post-maintenance notice within 4-6 hours of patch going live.

9.7 What we’ll update within 24 hours of patch going live

This page will be updated between 2026-09-08 18:00 UTC and 2026-09-09 12:00 UTC with:

  • The actual MSQ Part 2 quest count (4-6 hour estimate will be confirmed)
  • The full 50-species roster (populated in-game by then)
  • Any first-day balance changes announced in the post-maintenance Lodestone notice
  • The first 24 hours of community Beastmaster feedback (Reddit r/ffxiv, The Lodestone official forums, official Discord)
  • Confirmed server stability / downtime / rollback status
  • Any changes to the 6-day pre-launch checklist based on actual player experience

Bookmark this page and check back Sept 8 evening UTC for the first update.
