The week of 2026-08-17 → 2026-08-23 is a calibration week — Apex Season 30 is 13 days in and the meta has hardened, Diablo 4 just shipped its first post–Lord of Hatred balance patch, and Nintendo quietly pushed a Switch 2 stability update for one of the platform’s hottest exclusives. The seven days ahead are about meta resets, not new worlds. Here’s everything that matters, sized and timestamped.

Patch sizes and timestamps are best-effort at time of publication. Servers tend to roll updates in waves; if a download hasn't appeared by the listed time, give it 60–90 minutes and check again. This Sunday edition covers Apex S30 Marked mid-season balance, Diablo 4 Patch 3.0.3 (Warplans / Tormented / Pit tuning), Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream 1.0.2, Marvel Rivals S9 mid-season pass, POE 3.29 mid-league, Subnautica 2 EA 1.1 follow-up, and the Black Myth: Wukong -30% sale event. The next full refresh goes live 2026-08-24, 09:00 US Pacific.

Headline: Apex Legends Season 30 “Marked” — 13 days in, the meta has settled

Released: 2026-08-04 (live for 13 days); mid-season balance adjustment expected mid-week Download size: ~3.8 GB (this week’s update on top of the S30 base client) Platforms: All (PC via Steam / EA app, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2)

Season 30 “Marked” launched on 2026-08-04 with the biggest Legend rework in three seasons — Bloodhound’s Ultimate is now a stealth-based ability (short-duration invisibility + scan-mark on next hit, replacing the old Beast of the Hunt). The rework has either revitalized or destabilized the entire way teams play around information, and after 13 days of ranked play, the meta is finally legible. The mid-season patch this week tightens three legends and pushes Corrupted Attachments balance.

What to play first: Solo queue ranked. The Bloodhound rework creates a real information-war window — if you main a legend that can counter-scan (Seer, Crypto, Valk), this is the patch to climb. For a full breakdown of the new Bloodhound kit, the updated World’s Edge POIs, and the S30 tier list, see our Apex Legends Season 30 ‘Marked’ Tier List + Bloodhound Rework. The short version: Bloodhound has moved from C-tier to A-tier solo, remains S-tier in coordinated 3-stacks, and Loba + Rampart are the week’s biggest buff winners.

Big balance patches

Diablo 4 — Patch 3.0.3 (Warplans + Tormented + Pit push meta)

Released: 2026-08-13 (live) — major post–Lord of Hatred balance pass Download size: ~8.2 GB on PC, ~9.6 GB on console Platforms: PC (Battle.net), PS5, Xbox Series X|S

Patch 3.0.3 is the first major balance patch since Lord of Hatred launched on 2026-07-26. It wipes the post-launch meta and rebuilds it around Pit pushing and Tormented Boss runs. The numbers:

  • Warplans — XP rewards per objective increased by 15%; rare drop rate from Plan chests up 8%. The mid-game loop is now meaningfully faster.
  • Tormented Bosses — HP scaling at Pit Tier 90+ reduced by 12%; Andariel’s poison pool radius shrunk by 20% (the biggest community complaint). All four Tormented bosses are now legitimately farmable at T80 instead of T100+.
  • The Pit — T100 push time reduced by ~8 minutes on average due to the new monster density adjustments. New Pit leaderboard seeded from the Lord of Hatred launch data.
  • Mephisto Horadric Cube recipes — six new recipes added (including a way to re-roll a single affix on an Ancestral unique). Cube is now a mandatory farm step.
  • Spiritborn — small nerf to the Gorilla Aspect, partial revert of the Eagle Aspect buff from the 7/28 patch. The class is still S-tier but no longer the only option.

Play this first: run one Tormented Boss at Pit T80 before pushing T100. The Andariel radius change alone makes her the fastest 5-minute farm in the game. For the full Warplans route, the new Horadric Cube recipes, and the BiS Ancestral list after 3.0.3, see our Diablo 4 Patch 3.0.3: Warplans Tuning, Tormented Bosses, and the New Pit Push Meta.

Marvel Rivals — Season 9 mid-season balance pass

Released: 2026-08-19 (planned), 02:00 UTC Download size: ~1.4 GB Platforms: PC (Steam / Epic), PS5, Xbox Series X|S

S9 “Convergence” is 5 weeks in, and the mid-season pass is a small balance swing, not a content drop. The headline changes:

  • Storm — ultimate charge cost up 10% (still nerfed again after the 7/30 hotfix — pro-scene dominant across CDL playoffs)
  • Mister Fantastic — Elastic Slam cooldown 12s → 10s. Now a legit frontline pivot.
  • Invisible Woman — psi-shield HP reduced by 15%; team has to play more around her cooldowns.
  • Luna Snow — small buff to Absolute Zero alt-fire, the niche pick that nobody was running.

Play this first: the Mister Fantastic cooldown change is the most material swing — if you main him, push ranked before the patch lands on Tuesday. If you main Storm, take a week off ranked; the nerf is targeted at the upper tiers.

Path of Exile — 3.29 “Curse of the Allflame” mid-league balance

Released: 2026-08-20 (planned), 18:00 UTC Download size: ~0.7 GB Platforms: PC (standalone client / Steam)

3.29 has been live for 21 days. The mid-league patch is a targeted nerf to the league’s most-broken interaction — the Allflame Ember of the Cycle was generating 3x the expected density at high-tier maps. The patch caps the density bonus at 1.5x and rebalances three of the worst offender Allflame embers.

Play this first: if you have a top-tier Allflame build running, push the boss ladder before Wednesday’s patch. After the patch, the same build will still clear but ~25% slower. If you haven’t started 3.29 yet, this is actually the right time — the worst offenders are out of the way.

Stability & minor updates

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream — 1.0.2 (Switch 2 stability patch)

Released: 2026-08-15 (already live) Download size: ~0.4 GB Platforms: Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive

Nintendo’s second post-launch patch for the Switch 2 exclusive. The 1.0.2 update is small but addresses the most-cited launch bugs:

  • Wedding cutscene crash — fixed. The cutscene would hard-crash the game if both Miis had maxed-high friendship at the proposal trigger. Now plays through to completion.
  • Food unlock edge cases — several recipes that failed to register when materials were gifted in a specific order are now fixed.
  • Personality conflict resolution — Miis with opposing “Show-off” / “Shy” personalities sometimes entered an infinite idle animation. Fixed.
  • Import Miis from 3DS Tomodachi Life — the QR-code import path now handles edge cases where the Mii’s eyebrows used a retired color slot.

Play this first: if you held off starting a new island because of the wedding crash, the fix is live. For the full patch notes breakdown, see our Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream 1.0.2 Update guide.

Subnautica 2 — EA 1.1 “Adaptive Measures” follow-up

Released: 2026-08-18 (planned), 16:00 UTC Download size: ~1.1 GB Platforms: PC (Steam / Epic), Xbox Series X|S, PS5

EA 1.1 launched 5 days ago; this week’s patch is a small follow-up addressing the top community-reported issues from the EA 1.1 launch window:

  • Leviathan spawn rate reduced by 15% in the shallows biome (was too aggressive in the first 30 in-game days)
  • Seamoth depth module now unlocks at a more reasonable tech-tree position
  • Save corruption bug that affected ~0.3% of EA 1.1 launch players — fixed; affected players can recover via the auto-backup

Play this first: if you bounced off EA 1.1 because of the shallows Leviathan spam, the fix is this week. The base game remains in a strong state.

Drops, sales, and live-service pulse

Black Myth: Wukong — Steam -30% sale + new content-free patch

Sale ends: 2026-08-24 (assumed, Steam summer sale cycle) Price: $41.99 (US, down from $59.99) Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic), PS5, Xbox Series X|S

Wukong is in the middle of its strongest Steam CCU run since launch — +93% week-over-week (now ~34,845 concurrent), driven by a Steam -30% sale and renewed word-of-mouth after the 2024 Golden Joystick “Ultimate Game of the Year” re-circulation. The game’s actual content is unchanged; this is purely a price + nostalgia signal.

Play this first: if you bounced off Wukong at launch because of the Chapter 2 difficulty spike, this is the sale to revisit. We’ve published a full Black Myth: Wukong 2026 still-worth-playing guide today covering the best starter build, the 3 staff stances, and how to handle Chapter 3’s bosses.

Humble Bundle — August 2026 monthly bundle

Live now through 2026-08-31 Price: $12 (US, average Historical Low for the bundle) Platforms: Steam (keys)

The August monthly bundle headlines with a 2024 indie hit and a 2025 mid-tier RPG. The bundle is the strongest Humble monthly of the year so far on $/hour-of-gameplay. Worth the standalone purchase even if you cancel after one month.

FFXIV — Dawntrail 7.55 active, 7.56 on horizon

Current patch: 7.55 (live since 2026-08-12) Download size: ~3.4 GB (from 7.5x baseline) Platforms: PC (Steam / standalone), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, macOS

7.55 is the Yo-kai Watch crossover event + final MSQ content block before 7.56 lands. 7.56 is targeted for early September and is expected to be the last major content patch before the 8.0 reveal at Fan Fest in late October. If you’ve been putting off Dawntrail MSQ, the 7.55 → 7.56 window is the cleanest time to catch up.

Helldivers 2 — 108k CCU, Arrowhead 60-day plan continues

The game is sitting at ~108k concurrent on Steam and ~87k on PS5 — its highest sustained numbers since the summer 2024 peak. Arrowhead’s 60-day plan (Escalation of Freedom, polar enemies, Illuminate faction tease) is on track per their 2026-08-15 community update. No new patch this week, but the cadence is alive.

What to do first (priority list)

If you have only 90 minutes this week, do these things in this order:

  1. Apex Legends: play one ranked match on the new World’s Edge map with the reworked Bloodhound. The data is in after 13 days; the new meta is legible. If you main Seer, Valk, or Crypto, this is your climb window.
  2. Diablo 4: run one Tormented Boss at Pit T80, then re-roll one affix on your best Ancestral using the new Mephisto Horadric Cube recipe. The 3.0.3 meta shift is meaningful — old Tormented tier lists are wrong.
  3. POE 3.29: if you have a top-tier Allflame build, push the boss ladder before Wednesday’s patch. If you don’t, this is finally the right time to start — the Allflame Ember of the Cycle abuse is capped.
  4. Tomodachi Life: if you held off because of the wedding crash, the 1.0.2 fix is live. Start a new island.
  5. Black Myth Wukong: the sale ends in 7 days. If you’ve been on the fence, this is the cleanest price it’s been.

Season Pass: is it worth buying this week?

PassPrice (US)Worth it?Why
Apex Legends S30 Premium Battle Pass$9.99Yes, if you main ApexThe new Corrupted Attachment cosmetics are tied to the pass; ~30% of the rewards are usable immediately
Diablo 4 S14 Premium Battle Pass$9.99SkipThe +10 free tiers from the mid-season patch are still the value; the premium track is mostly cosmetic
Marvel Rivals S9 Premium Pass$9.99WaitThe Tuesday balance pass reshuffles the meta; wait until 8/22 to see which heroes are worth cosmetically chasing
Humble Bundle August Monthly$12YesStrongest monthly of 2026 so far on $/hour-of-gameplay

Save data, mods, and cross-platform: are you affected?

  • Apex Legends: No save-data issues from the S30 mid-season patch. Bloodhound’s Beast of the Hunt questline is auto-completed for accounts that had it previously finished.
  • Diablo 4: Eternal and Seasonal characters unaffected by 3.0.3. Mephisto Horadric Cube recipes unlock for all characters on the account.
  • POE 3.29: The Allflame Ember of the Cycle cap is not retroactive — existing maps with the bug-spawned density keep their drops. This is a forward-only change.
  • Tomodachi Life: 1.0.2 is mandatory for online island features. Local saves work without the patch.
  • Mods: Neither Diablo 4 nor Apex supports mods. POE 3.29’s league-specific mods are unaffected by the mid-league balance patch.

Where to get the official patch notes

Common questions

Q: Is the Apex Legends Bloodhound rework worth reinstalling for? A: If you haven’t played since S28 or earlier, yes. The new Ultimate is the most-differentiable Bloodhound has felt in 3 seasons. If you mained Bloodhound, the rework is a buff — your old muscle memory is mostly intact, but the kit now has real outplay potential.

Q: Should I jump back into Diablo 4 if I quit before Lord of Hatred? A: Only if you have ~20 hours to commit. The Pit push + Tormented Boss loop is meaningful endgame, but it requires a loadout that takes time to assemble. Patch 3.0.3 is the first good time to come back, but it’s not a casual re-entry.

Q: Does the POE 3.29 mid-league patch kill my build? A: Almost certainly no. The Allflame Ember of the Cycle cap targets maps with extreme density, not the per-kill damage. If your build works at 1.0x density, it works at 1.5x capped.

Q: Is the Black Myth: Wukong sale worth $41.99? A: Yes, if you have at least 25 hours of free time in the next month. The game is ~40 hours for a first playthrough. If you have a Steam Deck, it’s also Steam Deck Verified — the sale + portable play is the strongest argument for picking it up.

Q: Is Tomodachi Life 1.0.2 mandatory for Nintendo Switch 2? A: Not mandatory to launch, but mandatory for online island features. The local-only experience works on 1.0.1.
