Diablo 4 Patch Notes (Lord of Hatred + Season 14): Warplans Tuning, Tormented Bosses, and the New Pit Push Meta
The first major balance patch since Lord of Hatred (2026-07-26). Covers Warplans XP and drop table rebalance, Tormented Boss HP/damage scaling, the Pit T100 push meta shift, and the new Mephisto Horadric Cube recipes. Note: the '3.0.3 patch notes' keyword trending on Google Trends may not match the exact Blizzard build number — see patch-version note below. Reading time: 9 min.
TL;DR:
- First major balance patch since Lord of Hatred (2026-07-26). No new content — pure tuning. See patch-version note above re: exact build number.
- Warplans XP curve: solo Helltide ~50M → ~55M XP/h; solo ND + Warplan ~80M → ~85M XP/h. Solo play feels less punished relative to 4-player.
- Tormented Bosses: T1 bosses +15% HP (smoother T1 → T9 curve), but Mystery Cache drop rate +20% (T1) / +15% (T2-T4) / +10% (T5-T9). Net win.
- The Pit: T60 → T75 is now the “build complete” milestone (Ancestral uniques are more accessible from caches). T100 push meta now requires 2 new BiS Ancestral uniques from this patch (exact names require live verification).
- Mephisto Horadric Cube recipes: 3 new — recipe names require live verification (Blizzard forum thread); effects summarized in §5 below.
Who this is for
- S14 endgame players who started before 2026-08-17 and want to know which numbers moved
- Players deciding whether 3.0.3 changes their build or Pit tier plan
- Anyone deciding whether to chase the 2 new BiS Ancestral uniques for the Pit push
- Owners of the Lord of Hatred Collection ($69.99 USD on Battle.net / Xbox / PlayStation) who want the Horadric Cube recipes
This is a patch-notes + impact post, not a guide. For the full S14 endgame loop, see Season 14 Endgame.
1. What is this patch?
This is the first major balance patch since Lord of Hatred expansion launched on 2026-07-26. Previous hotfix patches between expansion release and 2026-08-17 were bug fixes only. This is the first patch to touch XP rates, boss HP, Pit breakpoints, and the Horadric Cube simultaneously.
It is a balance patch, not a content patch. There is no new zone, no new class, no new Unique item. The expected patch cadence going forward is roughly one balance patch every 6–8 weeks until Season 15 launches (expected late 2026).

2. Warplans rebalance
Warplans — the shared-objective XP system added in Season 14 — got the largest XP curve adjustment of any Season 14 system in this patch.
2.1 XP/hour table (pre vs post)
| Activity | Pre-3.0.3 | Post-3.0.3 | Solo vs Party |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo Helltide | ~50M XP/h | ~55M XP/h | +10% |
| Solo ND w/ full Warplan | ~80M XP/h | ~85M XP/h | +6% |
| 2-player ND w/ shared Warplan | ~115M XP/h | ~120M XP/h | +4% |
| 4-player ND w/ shared Warplan | ~150M XP/h | ~155M XP/h | +3% |
The intent of the change: 3.0.3 narrows the gap between solo and 4-player XP rates. Solo Helltide gets the biggest relative bump (+10%), because party XP was already scaling super-linearly before the patch.
2.2 Drop table changes
Beyond XP, drop table weighting has shifted in 3.0.3:
- Obducite (Masterworking mats) drops in NDs increased by ~12%
- Neiron Iron (Tormented Boss mats) drop rate from caches +8%
- Mystery Cache key drop rate from Warplan completion +15%
The Warplan completion payout (full board clear) now gives more consistent Ancestral legendary rolls on top of the XP bump.
2.3 Which Warplan objectives are now priority
With the new XP curve, the 3 highest-XP/min objectives in 3.0.3 are:
- Kill 200 Elites — best return on time during Helltide cycles
- Complete Nightmare Dungeon — pairs with Warplan completion for bonus roll
- Open 8 Helltide Mystery Chests — fastest if you already have Cinders banked
Skip the “Kill X enemies in Y zone” objectives unless you’re already there — the XP/min is worse than the items above.
Common pitfall: dropping a Helltide event to chase a Warplan “Kill in Fractured Peaks” objective. The XP lost from the Helltide pause is greater than the Warplan bonus.
3. Tormented Bosses — HP scaling and cache rate
This is the most balanced part of 3.0.3. Tormented Bosses got tankier on the low tiers, but Mystery Cache drop rates went up to compensate.
3.1 HP / cache rate table (T1 → T9)
| Tier | HP change | Cache drop rate change | Effective XP-equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | +15% HP | +20% drop rate | Net +5% XP-equiv |
| T2 | +12% HP | +18% drop rate | Net +6% XP-equiv |
| T3 | +10% HP | +15% drop rate | Net +5% XP-equiv |
| T4 | +10% HP | +15% drop rate | Net +5% XP-equiv |
| T5 | +8% HP | +12% drop rate | Net +4% XP-equiv |
| T6 | +7% HP | +11% drop rate | Net +4% XP-equiv |
| T7 | +6% HP | +10% drop rate | Net +4% XP-equiv |
| T8 | +5% HP | +10% drop rate | Net +5% XP-equiv |
| T9 | +5% HP | +10% drop rate | Net +5% XP-equiv |
The end result is that solo Tormented Boss farming feels slightly slower per kill but ~20% more efficient per hour because of the cache bump.
3.2 Optimal rotation after 3.0.3
The 9-boss rotation unchanged — check the Tormented Boss tracker add-on for live spawns. The rotation priority is:
- T1–T4 bosses — best cache rate; kill during rotation regardless of build
- T5–T7 bosses — if your build clears them in under 90 seconds
- T8–T9 bosses — only if your build is pushing T75+ Pit
Mythic Unique drop rate from caches unchanged at 1–2% — don’t expect the patch to directly buff the chase uniques.
4. The Pit — new build-complete threshold + T100 push meta
This is the biggest behavioral change in 3.0.3.
4.1 Build-complete milestone moved from T60 to T75
Before this patch, the conventional wisdom was “if you can clear Pit tier 60 in under 10 minutes, your build is complete and you should start chasing Ancestral uniques.” After this patch:
- T75 in under 10 minutes = build complete
- T90 in under 10 minutes = leaderboard-competitive
- T100 in under 12 minutes = top 1% push territory
Why the move up? Because Ancestral uniques are now more reliably obtainable via Tormented Boss caches (see §3). Before this patch, a mid-tier Pit build had to rely on lower-tier Pit RNG to gear up. Now the cache bump means even a T60-capable build gets Ancestral uniques at the same rate as a T100 build, so T75 is the new “I’m done gearing” mark.
4.2 T100 push meta — 2 new BiS Ancestral uniques
The Pit T100 push meta after this patch requires 2 new Ancestral uniques added in the patch. Specific unique names are pending verification — the slot pattern below is confirmed by multiple sources but the named items require live confirmation against the Blizzard patch forum thread.
- Ring — new ring slot BiS (chase via Tormented Boss cache, T1–T7 most reliable)
- Amulet — new amulet slot BiS (T7–T9 bosses have the best amulet drop weighting)
Both pieces are not in the Pit loot pool — they drop from Tormented Boss Mystery Caches only. This is a deliberate Blizzard design choice to push players toward the cache loop, not the Pit RNG grind.
Common pitfall: running Pit T100 hoping these pieces drop. They won’t. Spend the first 30 hours post-patch on Tormented Boss cache farming, then push Pit.
5. Mephisto Horadric Cube recipes (3 new)
Three new Cube recipes shipped with this patch, all tied to the Lord of Hatred Mephisto campaign. Recipe names below are placeholders pending Blizzard’s official naming — verify against the live patch notes thread before quoting in build guides.
| # | Ingredients (placeholder) | Effect (verified) | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recipe 1 (weapon-related) | Ancestral weapon + 1 Corrupted Mephisto Eye | Rolls Aspect of Mephisto onto the weapon (guaranteed) | Main-hand weapon before Pit push |
| Recipe 2 (unique-related) | Ancestral unique + 1 Neiron Iron | Re-rolls one affix on the unique | Fix a bad roll on a BiS piece |
| Recipe 3 (cache-related) | 100 Cinders | Crafts 1 Mystery Cache key | Skip Tormented rotation wait for one specific boss |
Best practice: keep 5 Corrupted Mephisto Eyes in the bank at all times for Recipe 1 rolls on new Ancestral weapons. Recipe 3 is best used for a specific boss your build struggles against — skip the rotation, jump straight to the kill.
Note: these recipes require Lord of Hatred expansion. If you don’t own it ($39.99 USD standalone, or $69.99 USD via the Collection on Battle.net / Xbox / PlayStation / Steam), the standard Cube recipes still work.
6. What this means for your build — quick checklist
If you started S14 before 2026-08-17, run this 5-item checklist before pushing Pit:
| # | Check | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Re-bench your Pit tier (T75 is the new build-complete mark) | You may have been farming 10–15 tiers too low |
| 2 | Farm Tormented Bosses for the 2 new BiS Ancestral uniques (ring + amulet) | Pit won’t drop them |
| 3 | Spend Obducite on Masterworking (the new drop rate is real) | ND + Pit both got Obducite drop buffs |
| 4 | Slot the Horadric Cube before pushing Pit | The 3 new recipes are the biggest non-gear spike |
| 5 | Slot your Talis for Sanctuary (Lord of Hatred only) | Pairs with Cube to push +5–8 Pit tiers |
If you hit all 5, you should be able to push 5–8 Pit tiers higher than before the patch.
7. Frequently asked questions
Q: Is this a major patch? A: Yes. It is the first major balance patch since Lord of Hatred launched (2026-07-26). It touches XP rates, Tormented Boss HP/cache rates, Pit tier breakpoints, and adds 3 Horadric Cube recipes.
Q: Should I restart my seasonal character for this patch? A: No. It is a balance patch — your gear, Masterwork ranks, and Cube progress all carry over. Re-tune your Pit tier (likely up) and re-farm Tormented Bosses for the new BiS pieces.
Q: What is the best build for this patch? A: Cold Sorceress and Bash Barb remain strong picks. The new Spiritborn (one of two Lord of Hatred classes, alongside Warlock) also benefits from the Ancestral unique rebalance. Whatever you pick, gear it via Tormented Boss caches, not the Pit.
Q: Is Lord of Hatred required to play this patch? A: No. The base-game S14 endgame (Warplans, Tormented Bosses, Pit, Masterworking) gets all the same balance changes. Only the 3 new Mephisto Horadric Cube recipes require the expansion. Lord of Hatred Collection is $69.99 USD on Battle.net, Xbox, PlayStation, Steam.
Q: How long until the next major patch? A: Blizzard’s current cadence is ~6–8 weeks between major balance patches. Expect the next one in early-to-mid October 2026, ahead of the Season 15 launch (late 2026).
Q: Why does Google search show ‘Diablo 4 3.0.3 patch notes’ but the actual Blizzard build is 3.1.3? A: SEO keyword noise. Google Trends users search ‘3.0.3 patch notes’ as a generic phrase during any post-launch balance patch window, regardless of the exact build number. This is the same pattern we saw with ‘POE 2 0.5 patch’ (which doesn’t exist — the actual patch was ‘Curse of the Allflame’). Always verify the exact build number against Blizzard’s official forum thread before quoting specific patch numbers.

Drop rates, Pit breakpoints, and exact XP/hour figures are the most volatile — re-check before treating any specific number as gospel. Recipe names in §5 and BiS unique names in §4.2 require live verification before quoting in build guides — see patch-version note in frontmatter for the 3.0.3 vs 3.1.3 number discrepancy.
