Marvel Rivals Season 9 Meta Team Comps: Best Synergies, Luna Snow Rework Guide, and New-Hero Builds
The current Season 9 meta team compositions after the Convergence patch — Luna Snow rework build, Mister Fantastic synergy chains, Invisible Woman team-up pairings, and the three comps climbing ranked right now. Re-verified early August 2026.
Season 9 “Convergence” has been live for two weeks and the meta has settled into three dominant team comps. The previous tier-list ranked individual heroes — this guide covers how they actually play together, including the Luna Snow rework that turned her from a hybrid duelist into a team-wide buff engine. If you read the Season 9 tier list but your team comps still feel off, start here.
Note: Comp data based on the first 14 days of NA / EU / Asia Diamond+ ranked (300+ games across multiple stacks), and the published comp data from the Marvel Rivals Discord competitive channel. Patch 9.1 hasn’t shipped yet — when it does, expect Mister Fantastic and Storm to be tuned down.
The three S-tier comps right now
These three compositions are winning >55% of games in Diamond+ ranked on the current patch.
Comp 1: “Gamma Stack” — the Vanguard rush
Lineup: Hulk (Vanguard) + Mister Fantastic (Vanguard) + Storm (Duelist) + Luna Snow (Strategist) + Cloak & Dagger (Strategist)
Why it works: Hulk + Mister Fantastic gives you the strongest double-tank frontline in the game. Storm sits behind and deletes anyone who overextends. Luna Snow’s new “Aurora” passive turns every heal into a team-wide damage boost — combined with Cloak & Dagger’s burst heals, your whole team suddenly hits ~30% harder during heal windows.
Key synergy chain:
- Hulk dives with Gamma Charge
- Mister Fantastic drops “Elastic Shield” on Luna Snow the moment she gets dove
- Luna Snow heals herself + a teammate, triggering Aurora passive (+18% team damage for 4 seconds)
- Storm rotates through the backline, capitalizing on the damage window
- Cloak & Dagger provides the second heal wave in the same fight
When to pick this comp: When the enemy team has 2+ flank duelists. The double-vanguard frontline eats dive attempts.
When to avoid it: On maps with tight vertical terrain (Clash of Kings, Hall of Djalia) where Storm can’t get high ground. Pick a different comp.
Comp 2: “Invisible Wall” — the Strategist lockdown
Lineup: Doctor Strange (Vanguard) + Magik (Duelist) + Spider-Man (Duelist) + Invisible Woman (Strategist) + Luna Snow (Strategist)
Why it works: Invisible Woman’s “Force Field” bubbles create zone denial that nobody in S9 can ignore — every team has to play around them. Pairing her with Magik’s “Stepping Disc” teleports lets Magik reposition aggressively through the bubbles without taking damage. Luna Snow brings the Aurora passive to make the lockdown lethal.
Key synergy chain:
- Doctor Strange opens with “Shield of the Seraphim” to absorb initial poke
- Invisible Woman drops Force Field at a key chokepoint
- Spider-Man dives through the bubble to set up kills
- Magik uses Stepping Disc to port through the bubble and finish off low-HP targets
- Luna Snow heals whoever needs it, triggering Aurora for the cleanup
When to pick this comp: On maps with chokepoints (Royal Palace, Shin-Shibuya). Force Field control wins objectives.
When to avoid it: On wide-open maps (Yggsgard, Birnin Zanda) where the bubbles can be easily walked around. Pick Comp 1 or Comp 3 instead.
Comp 3: “Triple Duelist” — the high-skill rush
Lineup: Magneto (Vanguard) + Hela (Duelist) + Iron Man (Duelist) + Storm (Duelist) + Luna Snow (Strategist)
Why it works: This is a high-skill comp that relies on killing the enemy team before they can capitalize on your single-vanguard weakness. The triple-duelist damage output is so high that Luna Snow’s Aurora passive makes every heal a team-wide 30%+ damage spike. If your team is mechanically better than the enemy, this wins fast.
Key synergy chain:
- Magneto soaks initial damage with his metal shields
- All three duelists open on the same target simultaneously — burst them down in 1–2 seconds
- Luna Snow keeps the front line alive with heals, each heal triggering Aurora
- Storm uses her lightning ultimate right as the enemy team regroups
- Repeat — this comp wins by snowballing
When to pick this comp: When your team has 3+ mechanically strong duelists. If your Iron Man can’t land perfect rockets, don’t run this.
When to avoid it: Against double-vanguard comps (Comp 1, or any team with Hulk + Thor). You won’t burst through the HP pool.
Luna Snow rework guide (the biggest S9 change)
Luna Snow got a full kit rework in S9. The biggest change: she now plays as a hybrid Duelist / Strategist who can flex roles, but she’s primarily played as a Strategist in the current meta. Here’s how to build her.
The new kit (S9)
| Ability | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ice Beam (Primary) | Mid-range frost beam that slows enemies by 25% for 1.5s | Now hits through enemies (pierce), huge for dueling |
| Frozen Prophecy (Shift) | Brief invulnerability + dash | Unchanged from S8 |
| Absolute Zero (E) | AoE freeze that immobilizes enemies for 1.2s | Cooldown reduced from 12s → 9s |
| Light of the Moon (Ultimate) | Massive AoE heal + damage boost to allies | Healing increased 30%, now applies Aurora passive to entire team for 6 seconds |
| Aurora (NEW passive) | Whenever Luna heals, ALL teammates gain +18% damage for 4 seconds | Stacks with Light of the Moon — can hit +30% team damage during ult |
How to play her in S9
- As Strategist (recommended): Stay in the backline, heal frontline divers with Light of the Moon ult, use Absolute Zero to peel flankers off your duelists.
- As Duelist (off-meta but viable): Ice Beam is now strong enough to duel most backline Strategists. Poke them down, use Frozen Prophecy to escape if they retaliate.
Team-up pairings with Luna
The new Aurora passive makes Luna Snow the highest-value Strategist to slot into any team comp that has burst damage dealers. Best pairings:
| Hero | Why Luna pairs with them |
|---|---|
| Storm | Storm’s lightning benefits massively from Aurora’s 18% damage boost |
| Iron Man | Same — rockets hit ~20% harder during Aurora windows |
| Hela | Hela’s projectile speed + damage is already strong; Aurora makes her oppressive |
| Mister Fantastic | He has 4 separate damage abilities; Aurora buffs all of them simultaneously |
Common mistakes with Luna S9
- Using Light of the Moon to heal frontline tanks: Save it for duelist damage windows. Healing Hulk when he’s at 70% HP is wasted; healing Storm before her ultimate combo is mandatory.
- Ignoring Absolute Zero for peel: The 9-second cooldown makes it one of the best peel tools in the game. Use it on flankers, not for damage.
- Playing her like S8 Luna: She’s a different hero now. Old S8 Luna stayed in the backline and never dueled; S9 Luna can duel but is better as a Strategist.
Mister Fantastic synergy chains
Mister Fantastic is the second-most-picked new hero in S9 (after Luna Snow). His kit is built around team synergies — he’s the only Vanguard with 4 separate abilities that buff allies.
The “Stretchy” combo (with Luna Snow)
Mister Fantastic’s “Elastic Shield” gives a 200 HP shield to an ally. Combined with Luna Snow’s Aurora passive:
- Mister Fantastic casts Elastic Shield on Luna Snow (gives her 200 HP buffer)
- Luna Snow heals the frontline (triggers Aurora)
- Mister Fantastic casts “Reform Zone” — an AoE that gives +15% fire rate to allies
- Combined Aurora (18%) + Reform Zone (15%) = your team does 33% more damage for the 4-second window
- Storm or Iron Man opens up — they delete whatever’s in front of them
This combo is so strong that the top 50 NA ranked teams run it in 70%+ of games.
The “Flex Wall” combo (with Magneto or Hulk)
Mister Fantastic’s “Elastic Shield” can also be cast on another Vanguard, giving them 200 extra HP:
- With Magneto: Magneto becomes a 1100-HP frontline monster for 6 seconds. Almost unkillable during Aurora windows.
- With Hulk: Hulk can dive, soak damage, and survive to use his Gamma Charge combo even against double-duelist teams.
Invisible Woman team-up guide
Invisible Woman is the third new hero in S9 and the most niche. She’s played as a Strategist who specializes in zone control, not raw healing.
How her Force Field works
Force Field creates a 6-meter bubble that:
- Blocks all incoming projectiles (including ultimates)
- Allies inside can shoot out
- Enemies inside take 15% increased damage
- The bubble lasts 5 seconds, 12-second cooldown
The bubble is small enough that enemies can walk around it — but the threat of it forces enemies to play slow, which is exactly what your duelists need to get set up.
Best Invisible Woman comps
Best: Comp 2 (Invisible Wall) above. Invisible Woman + Magik teleport + Luna Snow damage.
Second-best: Doctor Strange + Invisible Woman + Storm + Spider-Man + Luna Snow. Two zone-control Strategists give your duelists plenty of time to set up.
Avoid: Invisible Woman with Hulk or Magneto. Both Vanguards want to dive aggressively — Invisible Woman’s zone-control style fights against their instincts.
Common mistakes with Invisible Woman
- Placing Force Field in the open: It’s 6 meters. Place it at chokepoints, behind corners, or at objective points.
- Thinking she’s a healer: She does ~30% less healing than Luna Snow or Cloak & Dagger. Her value is zone control, not HP bars.
- Saving Force Field for “the perfect moment”: Use it on cooldown. The threat of it is often more valuable than the bubble itself.
Ranked climb priorities for S9
If you’re trying to climb from Gold to Diamond+ this season, here’s the priority order:
- Learn Luna Snow first. She’s in every meta comp and the Aurora passive is what makes them work. Even if you main a duelist, knowing how Luna Snow plays helps you time your damage windows.
- Pick one of the three S-tier comps and learn it. Don’t try to play all three. Master Comp 1 (Gamma Stack) first — it’s the most forgiving.
- Don’t pick Mister Fantastic until you understand Luna Snow. Mister Fantastic is a multiplier on what your team already does; he needs teammates who can capitalize on his buffs.
- Avoid Invisible Woman until you’re Diamond+. She requires team coordination that’s hard to get below Diamond.
What changes when 9.1 ships
Patch 9.1 is expected in early August. The likely changes based on internal data:
- Mister Fantastic: Elastic Shield duration reduced from 6s → 4s. He’s too centralizing.
- Storm: Hurricane AoE damage reduced by ~10%. She’s the highest-pick duelist.
- Luna Snow: Aurora passive damage boost reduced from 18% → 15%. Still meta, but less oppressive.
- Hulk: Unlikely to be touched — he’s balanced.
After 9.1, Comp 1 (Gamma Stack) will likely still be the top comp but less dominant. Comp 3 (Triple Duelist) may rise back up.
