Path of Exile 1 (3.29) Curse of the Allflame: Top 5 Ladder Starter Builds + 3.29.3 Patch Roundup

POE 1's 3.29 'Curse of the Allflame' launched 2026-07-24 (8:00 pm UTC); current version 3.29.3 (2026-08-12). Top 5 ladder starter builds (Lightning Arrow Deadeye, Boneshatter Jugg, Cold Snap Occultist, Explosive Arrow Hierophant, Tornado Shot Deadeye), the Allflame Ember mechanic, and the full 3.29.0 → 3.29.3 patch timeline. Reading time: 14 min.

Freshness Curse of the Allflame (3.29) launched 2026-07-24 at 8:00 pm UTC. League expected to run ~12 weeks → ends approximately late October 2026. Next league announcement typically 1-2 weeks before current league ends.

Note: This article was last updated 2026-08-19. POE 1’s 3.29 “Curse of the Allflame” league is now on its day 26 of the ladder. The current version is 3.29.3 (2026-08-12), three days ago at this writing. The previous league (Mirage) ended ~4 months earlier in March 2026 — if you saw “Mirage” in search results, it is from that earlier league.

Important: POE 1’s “3.29 Curse of the Allflame” and POE 2’s “Curse of the Allflame” content update share the name by coincidence. They are separate patches with separate ladders, separate economies, and separate build archetypes. This guide covers POE 1 only.

Allflame Ember mechanic (the 3.29 league hook)

Allflame Embers are the new league mechanic. They drop from rare enemies in Allflame-influenced maps. Each ember buffs the map with a new league-specific modifier:

Ember TypeMap ModifierDamage Type
Allflame Turmoil+30% monster density, +15% rare monster spawn ratePack size
Allflame WildwoodRandom grove-style terrain transformationsArea denial
Allflame FrostbiteMonsters deal cold damage on hitCold
Allflame EmberclawRare monsters have an additional fire attackFire
Allflame NecrosisRare monsters leave a corrupting ground on deathChaos

Combine matching embers to upgrade the tier of the modifier. A tier-3 Allflame Turmoil map with 90% increased monster density is the league’s premier currency farm — players report 100+ chaos per map on a tier-3 push.

Practical advice: do not save embers. The diminishing returns on lower-tier modifiers are sharp; spending them on every map is the optimal play.

Top 5 ladder starter builds (3.29 meta, 2026-08-19)

Each of these builds has a full guide on poe-vault.com and poedb.tw. We link to the official build pages; we do not republish their guides here for IP / freshness reasons.

Why Lightning Arrow is still #1

  • League-start viability on a 50 chaos budget
  • Smoothest mapping → bossing transition (swap to Lightning Arrow + Frenzy for single target)
  • The Galvanic Arrow support (added in 3.29.1) gives a strong AoE clear variant if you prefer not to roll the Tornado Shot variant

Why Boneshatter Juggernaut is the #2 choice

  • Most new-player friendly: stack endurance charges, take hits, recover
  • The Trauma-stacking mechanic (added in 3.27) rewards sticking to one enemy for long boss fights
  • Tankiest build in the league — works on a Tabula Rasa + 2-unique budget

What about Cold Snap Occultist?

  • Highest single-target damage of any starter — viable for boss rushing
  • Cold Snap’s new chill-stacking support (added in 3.29.1) makes this build feel much better than the 3.28 Occultist variant
  • The mana-management changes in 3.29.2 hurt caster builds slightly — keep that in mind

The Draugur’s Lantern (new Unique, 3.29)

The Draugur’s Lantern is a 3.29 league-drop Unique. It summons a Spectral Wraith companion. Stat-wise:

  • Minion damage +25-40% (roll-dependent)
  • Aura effect +15%
  • Summon Spectral Wraith (once per 4 seconds)
  • Flask charges used -15% (less flask uptime)

The build communities have pegged it as a top pick for summoner and minion-totem builds. For pure league-start currency farming, it slots into a second weapon set if you already run a ranged main build.

What did NOT change in 3.29 (FAQ common mistakes)

MisconceptionReality
POE 1 3.29 = POE 2 “Curse of the Allflame”Different patches, same name by coincidence
The Mirage league is the current oneMirage was the previous league (ended ~2026-03), 4 months earlier
POE 1 is deprecated in favor of POE 2No — POE 1 runs parallel, larger CCU
3.29.2 hotfix 2 is the latestNo — 3.29.3 released 2026-08-12

Practical league-start checklist (2026-08-19)

  1. Pick your starter build from the top 5 list — Lightning Arrow Deadeye if you want the safest ladder; Boneshatter Jugg if you are new to ARPGs.
  2. Stock embers aggressively — do not save them, the diminishing return is severe.
  3. Run the league starter unique The Draugur’s Lantern — drops often enough to slot into a second weapon set by day 3.
  4. Reserve a Stash Tab upgrade budget by 2026-08-21 — the Allflame Stash Tab Sale ends at 8:00 UTC that day. 30+ chaos saved means a free slot.
  5. Watch the weekly Mystery Box drops — GGG drops a themed box every week during the Allflame league.
